About New World Italian Wines:

The term Cal-Ital emerged in the 1980s, but the roots of Italian winemaking in California trace back a century earlier, when immigrants brought cuttings of cherished varietals like Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Sangiovese to the West Coast.

Once considered unruly or overripe, these grapes have since found their place in California’s diverse landscapes—thriving in cooler microclimates and under thoughtful stewardship. Today, New World Italian wines are celebrated for their vibrant character and depth, offering a fresh yet respectful interpretation of Old World tradition.
